The Scottish Borders is situated between Galloway and Dumfries, City of Edinburgh and Lanarkshire. Just over 112,000 people live within the Scottish Borders, ranking the area 17th in population. The Scottish Borders have been in existence since 1975. Some areas of the Scottish Borders reflect that the town was around in Gaelic times. Several villages and towns exist throughout the Scottish Borders including Hawick, Melrose, Foulden, Peebles and Newcastletown. Additionally there are many places of interest in the Scottish Borders area, including Ettrick Forest and Hermitage Castle.
